THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE

THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE

I have been a volunteer for about 15 years now on and off in different organisations, in different places and doing different tasks and during that time I have never once looked back. It can be so rewarding, fulfilling and sometimes life changing. I have worked as a driver for the disabled and the mentally ill sometimes taking them to activity centres (giving a hand sometimes) and also the sick for their treatment and doctors appointments. During their journey’s I learned to be a listener which was very rewarding because sometimes my clients would talk to me about some of their problems and what a great feeling it was to know that in some cases a complete stranger trusted me enough to confide in me.
I have also volunteered as a confidant for vulnerable people, usually with children, who have suffered some sort of trauma in their life; I have done volunteer work in offices typing letters and filing and I have also done gardening. The opportunities are endless.
Volunteering works both ways the client gets help and I get my rewards through knowing that I have helped someone who may be not as lucky as me.

Do you like Gardening or Growing your own?

Do you like Gardening or Growing your own?

We are looking for people who have an interest in gardening or growing fruit and vegetables to help out in the allotments and gardens that surround the centre.

If you know how to produce the best tomatoes or you know a thing or two about carrots why not spread your knowledge around?

If you can spare a day a month or an hour a week we would like to hear from you. You could be the key to helping our pensioners group eat more fruit & veg or getting the children who use the centre to eat their five a day!

For more information either pop into the centre (see the about us section for directions), give Gemma a call on 01274 636602 or email gemma@ravenscliffe.org.uk.

Look forward to hearing from you soon!
